Dell to Improve Support: $100 Million Investment + New Remote Help

Posted on June 5, 2006August 19, 2008 By Bob Caswell No Comments on Dell to Improve Support: $100 Million Investment + New Remote Help

Dell has been criticized for its support or lack thereof. But with a recent announcement that a $100 million is going toward improved tech support operations, Dell revealed plans for a new service allowing technicians to remotely control and troubleshoot PCs over a high-speed Internet connection.

The new service is called DellConnect and will only work once the owner of the computer gives permission to the technician. The computer owner can then watch as the Dell technician remotely troubleshoots, runs diagnostic utilities, downloads updates, etc.

This new service will be included as part of Dell’s warranty. It’s still unsure how drastically this might affect computer housecall companies. Some speculate that over 80 percent of the most common computer problems can be solved remotely. If so, computer housecalls may become a thing of the past.
