Speaking of Google, perhaps it's time to admit that the emperor is buck naked? Google is no longer an asset to small business. It's digressed into a black box designed to extract as much money as possible from small business while giving back as little value as possible. This piece explains why Adwords is something to be skeptical about: "Why Google Adwords is Not Helpful to Small Business" http://smartstartup.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/07/a-fable-doing-b.html

Huh, I didn't notice Ask being out of date. Then again, it's not like I've done any sort of scientific analysis. My experience was more anecdotal. I'll look for that as I play with it more...

I agree with you, partially. Ask has ALWAYS been a better search engine, specially since it merged with Teoma (r.i.p). The relevance of the results is superior with Ask, and I agree the new layout looks great.

There is a very big drawback about Ask, however. It's database of websites is pretty out of date. As soon as Ask's managers commit themselves to reindex the Internet as often and reliably as Google does, Google is over.

Yes, I believe Ask is the only one that can knock Google off the first place. The other smaller contenders like Snap.com are very far away yet.
